Light Has Been Made Tangible! - Yanko Design
Low-cal is undeniably intangible, and a tangible form for information technology does not exist. For this reason, Jay Kim set up out to blueprint a product that materializes lite, and the solution came in the grade of a beautifully elegant lamp with an added layer of subtle yet intriguing man interaction.
It carries a stunning design that has been inspired past the iconic form of the traditional Balance Calibration; this instantly recognizable shape is appropriately associated with the balancing of two objects, making information technology perfect for this lamp!
The weights, that are held in the minimalistic base, represent the varying amounts of light, and each weight has their level of luminance engraved clearly on their top. The more weight that is placed in tail pan, the higher the lamp volition be raised and the brighter the light volition shine, this allows Weightify to take on the part of three lights: a night light, mood low-cal and role desk light! Such an attracting and interesting product!

Intangible To Tangible
Lite is one of the intangible affair that does non exist in tangible form. In terms of scientific discipline low-cal can be perceived as waves or particles. So, I was imagining what if we tin can materialize lite, and what kind of interesting interaction I could apply to the lamp?
Inspiration
My inspiration of the desk-bound lamp came from the rest scale, a mass measuring musical instrument, considering it has a strong visual language that indicates a human relationship of two unlike objects in terms of weights.
Weights Of The Lite
There are four weights with engraved luminance unit (chosen LUX). It symbolizes that different amount of light is captured inside each weight.
Weight Translate To Low-cal
As the user put the weights on the tail pan, the lamplight gets brighter while information technology raises the head. Also, the bluish accent color cord gives hint of playfulness to people.
Precise Corporeality Of The Lite
Each weight contains a certain amount of the light, and information technology can exist mix weighted for certain apply.
xxx lux – lxx lux = night light
100 lux – 250 lux = mood light
400 lux – 500 lux = office desk light
Gimbal Caput
Equally the lamp caput is raising or falling, it always parallels to the ground like a gimbal.
Plume-like Swing – pin joint
Joint holds the beam firmly yet lubricated to create feather-like swing motility of the arm.
As the light gets brighter it covers a wider surface area.
Additional Design: "Weight Of Calorie-free"
This design is more than poetic than the original design because it strongly implies that a sure amount of lite is captured permanently inside of the dark cloudy resin. (It's like a fossil in amber)
